Zones & Linked Containers

Zones are sub-areas inside a space — think 'Top Shelf', 'Left Drawer', or 'Back Corner'. Once a space has zones, its containers are grouped under tabs so even a packed garage or storage unit stays easy to scan. Zones are free and there's no limit on how many you create.

Open a space and tap Add Zone. You can rename, reorder, or delete zones anytime. Deleting a zone never deletes containers — they simply move back to 'Unassigned'.

Long-press the container and pick a zone from the list. Containers without a zone show under the 'Unassigned' tab, and the 'All' tab always shows everything in the space.

An item that's also a container. Take a toolbox: it's a possession worth tracking (it lives in a cabinet and has a value), but it also holds things. Linking gives it both identities — it stays an item where it's stored, and opens as a container to reveal what's inside.

Open the item, tap Advanced, then tap Create Linked Container — or choose Link Existing Container to connect a container you already have. SnapFind links them in both directions: the button becomes 'View Contents' with a live item count, and in the space view the linked container shows a 'Stored in' label so you always know where the physical object lives.

Open the item, tap Advanced, then tap Unlink Container. Only the connection is removed — the container, its items, and the original item all stay exactly where they are.

Rule of thumb: if the thing holding items is itself a possession you'd want in your inventory — a toolbox, camera bag, tackle box, or board game organizer — link it. If it's just storage (a plastic bin, cardboard box, or shelf), a regular container is simpler. And if the container already exists, you never need to recreate it — use 'Stored inside' to move it into another container as-is.

Open the container, tap the pencil to edit it, and under Location tap the 'Stored inside' row — or long-press its card in the space view. Pick the destination and confirm. The container keeps all its items and its QR code, appears as an item inside the outer container, and its card stays in the space with a 'Stored in' label. To take it back out, tap the same row.

On the space screen, tap the button in the top-right corner, then press the delete icon next to the zone you want to remove. Deleting a zone never deletes your containers — they simply move to the 'Unassigned' tab.
