How it works
There is no shortcut to install and no switch to find. SnapFind registers itself with Siri the first time you open the app, and every item you add after that joins the index in the background.
Where you keep things is private, so Siri will not say it to a locked phone. Ask from the lock screen and iOS asks for Face ID or your passcode before a single word comes back.
The answer comes from an index stored on your iPhone, which is why it arrives in about a second and still works on aeroplane mode or in a basement with no signal.
Bonus
Swipe down on the Home Screen, type a few letters of anything you own, and your SnapFind items appear in the results with their photo and their location. Tap one to open it in the app.

No. SnapFind uses native iOS App Intents, so Siri already knows about it once the app is installed and you have signed in. Older versions of SnapFind needed a shortcut from the Shortcuts app; that is no longer the case.
Yes. Asking where an item is does not launch SnapFind — Siri answers out loud and the app stays closed. Asking Siri to search a category is the one case where SnapFind opens, because it is showing you a full result list.
No. The intent is marked as requiring authentication, so iOS demands Face ID or your passcode before Siri reads out any location. A locked phone in someone else’s hands gives up nothing.
No, it is free on every plan, including Free. It used to sit behind Pro and it no longer does.
Any iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or later, which covers iOS 26 and iOS 27. The SnapFind app itself runs on iOS 16.4 and later, but Siri phrases need iOS 18.
The item name and where it is, as a breadcrumb: space, then zone, then container. For example, "Passport is in Office, Closet shelf, Documents box." If the item is marked as lent out, Siri mentions that first.
